Located on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards was established in 1985 by the late Jerry Hazlitt and his wife Elaine Hazlitt. The family has been growing grapes and orchard fruits for a living since 1852. The winery and vineyards are now managed by sixth generation family members Doug Hazlitt and Leigh (Hazlitt) Triner. The first vintage was in 1984 and the winery produces just over 200,000 cases annually. Hazlitt’s has embraced the demand for award-winning Finger Lakes Riesling, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer. The operation is also the Home of the Red Cat, a popular sweet Catawba blend with a light-hearted reputation for bringing fun to any gathering, and the best-selling New York wine in the state. Innovative and progressive vineyard management, state of the art production facilities, and a forward thinking staff remain key elements in fostering the growing national interest in Hazlitt wines.
One of the Top 25 Tasting Rooms in the United States according to the May 2008 issue of the Wine Enthusiast Magazine, the Hazlitt tasting room, including the famous horseshoe bar, provides a relaxing visit for those who enjoy their wine with stories, jokes, and smiles. This casual approach affords visitors an opportunity to spend a little more time learning about wine in an informal atmosphere without intimidation. With its picnic tables, sparkling ponds and rolling horse pastures, the winery property also invites people to enjoy the region’s quiet charm. Please make reservations for groups of 8 or more.
