Corning, NYCorning’s Gaffer District stands among more than 200 downtowns across the nation competing in America’s Main Streets contest hosted by Independent We Stand, an organization that supports independently owned businesses and encourages people to buy local.

America's Main Streets contest recognizes the economic benefits of main streets and the small businesses that help them thrive. The winner will receive a $25,000 prize to support revitalization.

“Our Independent We Stand America’s Main Streets contest gives small business owners the opportunity to share their main street stories nationwide," says Independent We Stand co-founder Bill Brunelle. “But we know it takes a community to make that possible, so we’re inviting consumers to help recognize their favorite businesses.”

Executive Director for Corning’s Gaffer District, Coleen Fabrizi stated, “Our downtown is a remarkable example of resilience and determination. Following the flood of 1972, the community worked passionately to rebuild and the transformation is nothing short of spectacular. Downtown Corning has been recognized for the continued restoration of our historic buildings, signature events featuring glass and music, and so much more.  Our story is still unfolding and our Northside Revitalization project continues to evolve.  If we were chosen as the winner for America’s Main Street contest the prize would be used to enhance events and promote the small businesses of the Northside downtown neighborhood as a vibrant part of the Corning's Gaffer District experience.”
