Corning's Gaffer District Announces GlassFest Glass Quilt Project
Corning, NY - Corning's Gaffer District, The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes and The Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass invite the public to participate in a community art project to be unveiled at GlassFest May 21-24. 2020.
The first glass quilt debuted at the 2019 GlassFest with tiles made by the GlassFest founding sponsors. It celebrated the collaboration at the core of the annual GlassFest event. This year we invite the public to create a tile for a much larger glass quilt celebrating the incredible community support which has helped make GlassFest a tremendous success in the past 10 years!
The Studio is delighted to offer Museum guests a chance to participate in a community art project. The GlassFest Quilt will be a collage of fused 4x4 tiles–each featuring their own unique design. The project will be displayed proudly outside of The Radisson in Corning, NY during GlassFest 11 from May 21–24. Anyone is welcome to donate* a tile, but this opportunity is only available until May 14. In order to participate, you need to purchase a Make Your Own Glass small fusing project for $23.00 and inform your instructor on arrival that you would like to donate your finished tile to the GlassFest Quilt. Anyone who donated their tile will be giving it to The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes and will be given the tile back after GlassFest. If you choose to donate your tile, as a thank you for your participation, you will receive a memento from The ARTS Council.
"GlassFest is a celebration of the multitude of ways that glass can be used and appreciated. It celebrates the art and science of glass; its beauty and utility. The GlassFest Quilt is another example of the innovative ways that glass is used in our community", shared Dr. Constance Sullivan-Blum, Executive Director of The ARTS Council.
