BARTON, N.Y. (July 1, 2019) — For the twelfth year in a row, the Tioga County Agricultural Resource Group presents Sundaes at the Farm on July 21, 2019 from Noon until 3 p.m. This free, family, agricultural event is both fun and educational. Stronghaven Farm in Barton is the host this year.

As in past years, there will be self-guided barn tours with the farmers on hand to answer questions, educational displays, 4-H food booth, activities for kids, and live music. FREE ICE CREAM SUNDAES with toppings made from local ingredients will be served by the Tioga County Dairy Princesses.

This year’s Sundaes at the Farm hosts, Stronghaven Farm, LLC, is owned and operated by the Strong family. When Bob and Ruth Strong bought the farm in 1970, it was a working farm with 50 cows and 150 acres. Over the years, they grew it to its current size of 280 cows and 1500 acres. Currently, three generations are working the farm together along with employees. In his 80’s now, Bob, who maintains the grounds, can be often be found on his mower and Ruth does all of the calf care for the farm. One of their sons, Craig is the crop manager and general manager and the other, Brian, is in charge of feed, cow care, and breeding. Craig’s sons also work on the farm. Sean works in the shop on all things mechanical, Matthew manages the cows as well as employees, and Adam takes care of the trucking. They are all assisted by Mike Jump who helps out with whatever needs to be done. In fact, everyone who works on the farm can do all of these jobs at any time if needed. Having all grown up on the farm, the generations of family work together as a well-oiled machine, keeping up with a large operation that includes growing all of their feed and even buying, drying, and then reselling corn from around the region. The Strong family takes pride in their work and is excited to show the public what they do by hosting the 2019 Sundaes at the Farm.

Every year, hundreds of residents and visitors travel the country roads of Tioga County to attend Sundaes at the Farm, which is hosted by a different farm every year, to celebrate the agricultural roots of Tioga County. This is a fun way to spend the day, a great way to get to know your local farmers and to learn about local agriculture.

As this is a working farm, attendees are encouraged to wear clothing that is appropriate for being outdoors and comfortable shoes. Handicapped access is limited.

Sundaes at the Farm is sponsored by Tioga County Farm Bureau, Leprino Foods, Tioga Downs Casino, Ward and Van Scoy Feeds, Tioga State Bank, Farm Credit East, Dairy Farmers of America, Home Central, American Dairy Association North East, with donations from Chobani (Yogurt), Cabot Cheese (Cheese), Byrne Dairy (Milk), Wegmans (Ice Cream), Terrys Berry’s (Ice Cream Topping), Gary’s Berry (Ice Cream Topping), Our Green Acres (Ice Cream Topping), and Cupola Ridge (Ice Cream Topping).

The event is hosted by the Tioga County Agricultural Resource Group (TC ARG), a county association that is made up of representatives from several Tioga County organizations and farmers who collaborate on agricultural initiatives and events.
