Corning's Gaffer District Announces 35th Annual Sparkle

Corning, NY - December 1, 2009 - Corning's Gaffer District is pleased to announce the 35th annual Sparkle, on Saturday December 5th, 2009 from 5:00pm - 9:00pm.

For decades past, Sparkle has been the culmination of the Crystal City Christmas events season, offering both traditional events and new attractions each year to suit any family. In this tradition, Corning's Gaffer District is proud to include several new additions to this year's event:

  • Frisbee sweep family game
  • Autograph book for children featuring over 20 costumed characters, local celebrities and mascots. Sponsored by Market Street Coffee & Tea
  • Prize Box Wind Tunnel - offering a chance to win cash, coupons and tickets to an Elmira Jackals game
  • Elmira Jackals mascot Blade and Jackals official broadcast station 94 Rock & WOKN-FM with live broadcast
  • Live broadcasts, music and t-shirt giveaways with WINK 106, WPGI-FM The Big Pig and WINGZ 104.9.
  • Vortex Simulator Experience by Bradley Farms
  • Free family photo opportunity with scenic holiday backdrop painted by John Kotlinski
  • Wreath sales at the corner of Chestnut & Market Streets to benefit the Corning-Painted Post West High Band
  • Dancers Alley Performance @ WS2K Media / Magic-FM Studios. Performances at 5:30pm and 7:00pm.

In addition, popular returning events include:

  • The Window of Gifts Giveaway, located at 13 E. Market Street.
  • Secret Santa Shop in the Information Center, sponsored by Guthrie Corning Hospital Auxiliary
  • Live holiday-themed ice sculpture at Rotsell's Deli
  • Ski and snowboard demonstrations by Berger's Ski & Snowboard
  • Window-front caricatures by artist Mike Burrell at Home Again/Closet Treasures
  • Family Sparkle at the Rockwell Museum of Western Art
  • Holiday Open House at the Corning Museum of Glass
  • Santa Claus in the Crystal House (Centerway Square)
  • Holiday Cookie Recipe Contest at The Black & White Cookie CafĂ©
  • Free gift wrapping in the Information Center to benefit Corning Meals on Wheels
  • Horse-drawn carriage rides from Spring Wagon Orchard and Carriage Services
  • Christ Church Bell Ringers at Vitrix Hot Glass Studio
  • Live music, carolers, living nativities, real reindeer and costumed characters
  • A variety of local and regional specialty vendors, including fresh roasted chestnuts

Entertainment on stage at Centerway square includes His Tabernacle Family Church (5:00pm - 5:30pm), Corning Christian Academy (5:45pm - 6:15pm), Painted Post Chapter SPEBSQSA (6:30pm - 7:00pm), Corning Area Community Concert Band (7:15pm - 8:00pm).

Free parking during the event is available in the Centerway Parking Garage via Tioga Avenue.
