Welcome to Halcyon Place Bed and Breakfast. Located in a landmark Steuben County home, our bed and breakfast decorated with period antiques offers peace, tranquility, and gracious hospitality to the discerning traveler. A former home of the Houghton family, founders of Corning Incorporated, this stately house was built in the mid-19th century by the Tolbert family and reflects their wealth and exquisite taste.
Halcyon Place Bed and Breakfast is just a brief 12 minute drive west of Corning, New York. Enjoy a day at the Corning Museum of Glass and historic Market Street, and then spend your evening in the country. Hammondsport and the Keuka Lake Wine Trail are but fifteen minutes away. The Seneca Lake Wine trail and Watkins Glen are also an easy jaunt. Sailing, cross-country skiing, antiquing, wine-tasting, outdoor concerts, and relaxing are just across our doorstep in the Finger Lakes region of New York.
Surrounded by open fields and beautiful vistas, our circa 1840 Greek Revival is distinguished by graceful columns, six-over-six windows, stunning woodwork, and pristine wide pine floors. You can enjoy breakfast by the fire in autumn and winter, or enjoy your repast while gazing at the herb garden in spring and summer.
Our two-acre property includes a stone smokehouse and a maple syrup house. Halcyon Place is reached by driving along Maple Lane under a canopy of mature maple trees. The former harness shop has been converted into an herb and antique shop. You will find wonderful early furniture, our own dried herb and flower wreaths, herbal products, unique gifts, and a tasteful selection of goods by American craftsmen.
Upon arrival at Halcyon Place Bed and Breakfast, enjoy a cup of tea or a refreshing Finger Lakes beverage. During your stay, relax with a good book in front of the parlor fire or enjoy a quiet summer afternoon on our wicker filled porch. Our greenhouse will also be overflowing with unique herb plants to take home for your own gardens.
Begin your day with a full gourmet breakfast in the dining room furnished with lovely antiques. Breakfast always includes fresh fruit and baked goods, such as rum sticky buns or pear gingerbread. Seasonal entrees range from Grand Marnier French toast and chocolate waffles with raspberries to dilled crepes with smoked salmon and creme fraiche. Fresh herbs and flowers garnish your plate.
Once again, we will be offering our Wednesday Afternoon Teas throughout the summer. Call us for a list of events. You may also wish to hold your next party at our spacious bed and breakfast. We would be pleased to discuss menu and party ideas.
