More Information

The Chemung River is approximately 45 miles long and runs through two states, three counties, and several towns, villages, and cities. It is 1,500 feet across at its widest and averages between three and five feet deep. The river, however, is much more than just statistics. It provides an ecosystem for a wide variety of plants and animals and is a lifeline for human civilization. Its waters have been used for transportation, industry, recreation, and inspiration, but they have also been a force of destruction. This exhibit explores all these aspects and includes multiple hands-on stations where visitors can be inspired by the river.
