More Information

Celebrate Mother's Day weekend with classics by Romantic period composers and selections that appropriately honor mothers. From Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite, which evokes the imagery of childhood, to Dvořák’s folkloric and nostalgic selection of Songs My Mother Taught Me, to Brahms’ How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place from A German Requiem which was written in dedication of his mother.

This concert will also feature Allison Eldredge as guest soloist and the Chorus of the Southern Finger Lakes.

As a child prodigy, Allison Eldredge performed with the New York Philharmonic and Los Angeles Philharmonic and performed at the White House by invitation of First Lady Nancy Reagan. She gained national attention when Conductor Daniel Barenboim invited her to make her debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Allison has been guest soloist both nationally and internationally, including the Cleveland Orchestra, Buffalo Philharmonic and Royal Philharmonic in London, among others. She has also collaborated and shared the stage with Yo-Yo Ma and Joshua Bell.

Located in Mark Twain Country just south of the Finger Lakes, the Clemens Center is the region's premier performing arts center with two spectacular performance spaces. Mandeville Hall is a flexible, black box venue suitable for intimate performances, corporate events, and parties. The majestic Powers Theater is an architectural treasure that has been restored to its vaudevillian-era grandeur. Magnificent murals, gold-leaf details, and reconstructed opera boxes adorn the theater just as they did when it opened in 1925. The 1,618-seat venue has been called the most beautiful theatre between New York City and Buffalo—it is truly awe-inspiring! Renovation in 2008 included expanding the stage and upgrading technical equipment, making it possible to showcase the best in live entertainment. From nationally touring Broadway shows and dazzling dance programs to rousing rock 'n' roll concerts and feel-good family entertainment, the Clemens Center excites and delights audiences of all ages! The Center’s mission, though, extends beyond entertainment and into the community through school programs, outreach activities for the underserved, and subsidized facility rentals for its six Resident Companies: Common Time Choral Group, Elmira Little Theatre, New Heights Dance Theater, Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, Rafael Grigorian Ballet Theatre, and Thursday Morning Musicales. These nonprofit arts organizations provide community members with the opportunity to perform several times a year on a professional theatre stage. The Clemens Center is the perfect place to connect with family and friends and enjoy memorable experiences that enrich, inspire, and amaze.
