More Information

The Evelyn Peeler Peacock Gallery at The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes is pleased to present Going Nowhere, a solo show featuring the works of Caleb Harrington. On display from April 15 - May 10, 2019, the opening reception will be on Friday, April 26, 2019 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. An artist talk will begin at 6:00 PM.

Going Nowhere is a surreal suggestion of place taking inspiration from the small towns and communities in the New York Finger Lakes region. Going Nowhere pairs bold black, ink lines on crisp, hand-made paper with a variety of materials including concrete, recycled wood, and glass. Pieces of buildings come together and burst apart in washing and hazy fields of light. Balanced walls and structures stack dangerously atop one another to form towering shapes bigger than their parts. Going Nowhere asks “why?” It questions the direction one is headed in. It questions the direction that we are all headed in.

Caleb Harrington is an artist, barista, and community organizer based in Upstate New York. Years of service industry work has led to a path of labor organizing and community outreach including leading the first unionizing of baristas in the United States. In addition to his activist work, Caleb teaches courses on framing and woodworking as well as non-traditional printmaking at the Ithaca Generator, a local makerspace. All aspects of Caleb’s life bleed together to inform his artwork which blends traditional printmaking with the ideas and mixed mediums of Suggestivism, a contemporary conceptual art movement. The artwork on display is marked at a rate of $11.10 an hour, the same rate one would make as a barista.
