Corning's Gaffer District is excited to announce the opening of The Independent Artist on Historic Market Street. Located at 22 E. Market Street in the former site of The School House Country Store, owner and artist Lisa McLean recently opened The Independent Artist in the space, offering a variety of art supplies and examples of her personal work.
With more than twenty years' experience, the self-taught contemporary and expressionist painter realized a long-held dream by opening a space where she could share her love of art and expression with artists and collectors alike. Upon entering her modest space, visitors are immediately taken by surprise when surrounded by McLean's one-of-a-kind masterpieces.
With a caliber of quality and professionalism that mirrors internationally-recognized master artists, it's no surprise that McLean has sold dozens of works in her first few weeks of business. At the current time, more of the pieces in the store are already sold than not. Additionally, customers continue to praise McLean for her undeniable talents. With the sale of each painting, McLean provides collectors with a unique story about each work - a story that's only shared when the paintings transfer ownership. All inspired by real-life experiences, McLean's paintings evoke strong emotions and are fiercely connected to her personal life.
Currently a digital media arts instructor at GST Boces, McLean has opened the retail location as a personal project and tribute to her grandmother, who she considers the most influential person in her life and pursuit of her art. McLean notes, "It's a privilege to share my art with this community. Although it's tough to see some pieces go, I'm honored to know that they will also be enjoyed by others for many years to come."
Visitors and customers are encouraged to explore the paintings and array of canvas, brushes and other supplies available for sale. McLean has also partnered with a number of art students from area schools, who will occasionally work on paintings in the store's front window.
