WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 15, 2017) - Embracing the fan experience has always been a key part of the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen weekend at Watkins Glen International.
During the upcoming June 29-July 2 event, off-track activities will be taken to a new level featuring several additions to the much-anticipated return of sports car racing at The Glen.
“Our Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen race weekend is among the most fan-friendly that you’re going to find on the circuit when it comes to off-track entertainment. With nearly 24 total hours of on-track activity from Thursday through Sunday, we always make planning the non-racing offerings a focus, too,” said Watkins Glen International President Michael Printup. “We’re confident that there is something for every fan coming through our gate during this event.”
Autograph sessions kick off on the afternoon of June 30 with competitors from the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA/Canada from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Autograph sessions will take place in the area of the midway.
At 6:30 p.m., the Jack Daniels Summer Stage is transformed into a competitive and fun arena for the 10th Annual Sahlen’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. Afterwards, Aunt Millie’s Biscuits and Iron Horse will rock the stage into the Western New York summer night, on the same Jack Daniels Summer Stage.
On Saturday, July 1, don’t miss an opportunity to start race day with coffee, donuts, and conversation with Watkins Glen International President Michael Printup. From 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at Concession Stand 5 (near Camping Section D), Printup and members of the WGI staff will be present to speak with fans while enjoying breakfast in the infield.
Later, pit lane opens for fan access and pre-race festivities at 1:20 p.m., prior to the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Continental 120, which is scheduled to go green at 2:25 p.m.
While the Continental 120 heats up on the twists and turns of The Glen, WeatherTech SportsCar Championship drivers will be present at their team transporters in the paddock from 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. for a driver autograph session.
Later on Saturday evening, the skies above Watkins Glen’s historic circuit will be lit with a 4th of July fireworks display, providing fans and campers a patriotic interlude on the eve of the weekend’s main event.
When the green flag drops on the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen at 10:10 a.m., Sunday’s pre-race festivities will begin bright and early at 8:30 with a tweet-up in Gatorade Victory Lane. The tweet-up will include giveaways and special guests, as well as one more opportunity to get up close and personal on the grid, with a fan walk on pit lane beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Fans are also encouraged to take time during the weekend to check out an expanded midway at Watkins Glen International, which is set to feature six automotive manufacturers, interactive displays, concessions, shopping areas, and more, all located in the heart of the infield.
Weekend and Sunday general admission tickets are available for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, which includes nearly 24 hours of on-track action from five of America’s premier sportscar racing series over four days at Watkins Glen International.
