LODI, N.Y. (June 4, 2018) -- Wagner Valley Brewing Co has promoted Eric Byers to head brewmaster, effective May 2018. Byers previously served as an assistant brewmaster and has been with Wagner Valley Brewing Co since 2015.

Originally a math teacher from Richmond, Texas, Byers was first introduced to craft beer during college, when he began to frequent small craft breweries around the state. After relocating to the Finger Lakes for his wife to attend Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, he was able to make the full-time commitment to his brewing career.

“I’m very excited to put into practice all that I learned over the past three years,” Byers said. “I’m also looking forward to putting out new recipes of my own and to learn even more from all the talented brewers in the Finger Lakes. ”

Byers’s predecessor, Brent Wojnowski, will be leaving the Finger Lakes region to pursue an exciting brewing opportunity in Ireland. WVBC has also hired Erik Norsen to assume the role of assistant brewmaster. Norsen, who began homebrewing in 2007, has a degree from Oregon State University in food science technology with a concentration in fermentation science. He comes to WVBC from Harpoon Brewery which has locations in Vermont and Massachusetts.
