LODI, N.Y. (Sept. 24, 2018)—Wagner Vineyards Estate Winery has hired Jess Johnson as a welcome addition to their winemaking team. Johnson, a Sodus, NY native and graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology, joins the Wagner team after seven years as a winemaker at Standing Stone Vineyards.
“I'm looking forward to learning more about grape varietals that Wagner Vineyards has been growing throughout their rich history that I have never worked with before,” Johnson said. “It will be a great opportunity to work with different varietals and work on a larger production scale.”
Johnson joins fellow winemaker Kevin Lee and head winemaker Ann Raffetto, the first female winemaker at a farm winery in the Finger Lakes. As Raffetto prepares for retirement after over 30 years with Wagner, the team hopes to cultivate a symbiotic relationship that allows a smooth transition before the winemaking torch is officially passed to Johnson and Lee, respectively.
“I'm excited to be a part of the Wagner team and help contribute to showcasing wines that express character, maturity, and the vineyard sites themselves,” Johnson said. “I'm also looking forward to working with the Wagner team as they have years of experience that radiates knowledge and passion for viticulture and winemaking.”
