WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (March 29, 2018) – The Finger Lakes Wine Festival presented by Yancey’s Fancy New York’s Artisan Cheese has announced the 2018 enhanced wine seminar lineup, sponsored by Women for WineSense.
Marking their third year of official partnership, Women for WineSense has created a unique slate of wine seminars with a focus on what sets New York State wine apart from the rest, and the region’s important place in the industry. The seminars are designed to accommodate all levels of knowledge, whether a seasoned wine aficionado or someone just discovering their tastes.
To enhance the wine-tasting experience, small bites of food will also be a part of each seminar.
“Our enhanced seminars offer a great opportunity for wine lovers to sharpen their expertise,” said Watkins Glen International President Michael Printup. “We are thrilled to partner with Women for WineSense once again this year. With their support, we have been able to grow the seminar program into what it is today – a tremendous part of our festival.”
All enhanced seminars require an additional ticket purchase, with seats available on a first-come, first-serve basis. They take place on the second floor of the Watkins Glen International media center. 90+ Point Club of the Finger Lakes
Saturday, July 14th at 11:30 a.m.
$30 per person
The days of people not taking the Finger Lakes as a wine-making region seriously are over! Guests will taste six wines that have received 90+ points in major wine publications and discuss the potential of the region, why area wines are so great, and why the critics love them.
Sparkle in the Finger Lakes
Saturday, July 14th at 2:30 p.m.
$25 per person
Who doesn’t love bubbles? Learn the difference between Traditional Method, Transfer Method, Charmat/Tank Method, and Forced Carbonation styles. Guests will enjoy tasting six different sparkling wines made in the Finger Lakes.
The Science of Food and Wine
Sunday, July 15th at 11:30 a.m.
$25 per person
We all hear about food and wine pairing, but do we truly understand it and what it means? Taste is the sensation produced when a substance in the mouth reacts chemically with the receptors of taste buds. Taste, along with smell, determines flavors. Guests will take a scientific look at why certain elements in food pair well with wines, and explore the basics of sweet, salty, bitter, sour, and savory, and what that means to certain wine profiles. Six wines will be tasted.
Riesling, the Queen Bee of the Finger Lakes
Sunday, July 15th at 1:30 p.m.
$20 per person
Rieslings have helped put the Finger Lakes on the world wine map. Guests will taste for themselves why this is the area’s Queen Bee varietal and see how food-friendly the grapes can be. Six wines will be tasted in total, with both dry and semi-dry expressions being poured.
