ELMIRA, N.Y. (January 1, 2017) - The Clemens Center, the Twin Tiers’ premier performing arts center, is pleased to announce its transition from www.clemenscenter.com to www.clemenscenter.org to better reflect its 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization status.

Starting January 1, 2017 the Center’s website and all of its associated email addresses will change to a .org extension. For patron and vendor convenience all .com traffic will be redirected.

“We feel this change will bring awareness of our nonprofit nature to those who view our website and buy tickets online. There is a false notion in the community that because we present Broadway shows, we operate as a for profit entity when, in fact, ticket sales only account for half of what it takes to maintain the facility and present all of the other music, dance and theatre offerings,” says Executive Director Karen Cromer. “We rely on contributions from individuals and businesses, as well as federal, state, and local monies to balance our budget. Our website address should reflect that, and remind you every time you see or hear it mentioned. Without such support none of it—not even Broadway—would be possible.”

Centrally located in Downtown Elmira, the Clemens Center re-opened in 1977 and will celebrate its 40th Anniversary Season in 2017-18. Annually the Center hosts more than 80,000 patrons and 15,000 preK-12 students, who attend more than 240 professional and community performances. Community support comes from a variety of sources including nearly 1,400 individuals and 85 business members and more than 200 volunteers contributing over 8,000 hours of time each year.
