Celebrating the Diversity of Wines
Finger Lakes Wine Month, held annually during the month of May, in partnership with the Finger Lakes Wine Alliance, is a celebration of the diversity of wines from the Finger Lakes. Throughout the month, experience special events and unique tasting room experiences. Additionally, wineries, accommodations, and tourism businesses around the region are offering an array of special month-long promotions.
Reason to Celebrate
The Finger Lakes is home to more than 100 wineries, centered around Keuka, Seneca, and Cayuga Lakes. What diversifies the wine from other regions? The terroir of the Finger Lakes is special because of the microclimate created by the lakes — the consistent temperature of the water protects vineyards from extreme cold winter weather, limestone-laced soils provide moisture retention during periods of dry weather and allow for good drainage during heavy rains, and breezy days during the summer help ripen the grapes.
