May is Riesling Month
We invite you to Finger Lakes Wine Country, New York May, 2010 for a month of all things Riesling. From special Riesling tastings with some of the area's leading winemakers, Riesling themed dinners, to getaway packages including complimentary bottles of Finger Lakes Rieslings, there is an abundance of events and promotions all month long. Those participating wineries will be flying their Riesling flags and there will be something special happening everyday.
"Riesling Hour" big update! Help us get 1000 people around the country to be part of "Riesling Hour". It is a bit like happy hour but fun with a Finger Lakes wine twist!

Riesling is the region's most widely planted Vinifera varietal, with almost 1000 acres. The microclimate condition and the slate soils that are so special to the Finger Lakes is exactly what makes Riesling thrive. Considering all this, it is no wonder why the Finger Lakes is one of the top Riesling producing regions in the world. The wineries of Finger Lakes Wine Country continue to be internationally recognized for their world-class Rieslings and are now making history. Finger Lakes Rieslings have been featured in Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, Food & Wine, Wine & Spirits, Decanter, among others and have won many prestigious medals at wine competitions like Riesling du Monde (Rieslings of the World).

Featured Riesling Events
May 1 - May 31 ~ Heron Hill Winery will offer an exclusive vertical tasting including 2002 - 2007 Ingle Vineyard Riesling available at Heron Hill Winery on Keuka Lake and Tasting Room on Seneca Lake. Wines will also be for sale at both locations.
May 3 - 28, 11-5 p.m. ~ Sheldrake Point Winery (Cayuga Lake): Experience the difference a glass makes to the aromas and taste of wine. For $8 per person, taste 2006 Reserve Riesling and 2007 Riesling into a flight of four Riedel glasses. The tasting will be held every hour on the half-hour and limited to six people. Participants can purchase the two wines at a discount. Reservations are preferable but not necessary.
May 3 - 28, 11-4 p.m. ~ Lamoreaux Landing Wine Cellars (Seneca Lake) is offering taste the full selection of their 2008 Rieslings, including Reserve Riesling, paired with an assortment of Finger Lakes cheese samples. Available daily in the tasting room with special pricing on 2008 Dry Riesling and 2008 Semi-Dry Riesling.
May 20-31, 9-5 p.m. ~ Rockwell Museum of Western Art (Corning): 21st Century Regionalists: The Art of the Next West Exhibition.
May 27, 6-8 p.m. ~ Fox Run Vineyards (Seneca Lake) presents their Spring Tasting featuring four wines and four tapas for only $20 anytime between 6-8 p.m. Call 800-636-9786 for more details and reservations aren't required.
May 27-30 ~ GlassFest in Corning's Gaffer District, will feature live glass-blowing seminars and neon-glass exhibits. In addition, attend a special wine and food tasting event on Friday, May 28 featuring Finger Lakes Rieslings and local breweries.
May 29 ~ Anthony Road Wine Company (Seneca Lake) will host "Riesling in the Cellar", with winemakers Johannes and Peter. Try 6-7 Rieslings for $10, including a taste of 2008 Semi-Dry Riesling -- winner of the Governor's Cup, for best New York Wine. For more details call 800-559-2182.
May 29-30 ~ Atwater Estate Vineyard (Seneca Lake) will host a special cheese and Riesling pairing.

Knapp Vineyard Restaurant will offer Riesling Asparagus soup daily for the month of May ($4 - $5). Try the Riesling Peach Ice Cream, made from Knapp Winery Riesling and Cayuga Creamery -- available in the tasting room. Also, try the Melon Gazpach soup -- available in the tasting room on Wed.-Fri. during May. This soup pairs great with Riesling!
Union Block Italian Bistro - Each week in May, Chef Craig Wilson will pair specific appetizers with a Riesling from one of four Keuka Lake wineries. Over the weekend he will create Special dishes to complement that week's featured Riesling which will be available along with our regular menu. Also, Thursday tastings are free & open to the public from 5-7 p.m.
Veraisons Restaurant - Throughout the month of May they will offer Glenora’s Riesling and Chef prepared cheesecake in the Retail Shop to all of our patrons. Veraisons will also feature Glenora Rieslings by the glass.
